"The integration of the UBU into the RUN-EU will boost the development of Castilla y León"
10th January 2023
The Regional Minister of Education of the Government of Castilla y León, Rocío Lucas Navas, who, together with representatives of various institutions and companies in the region, participated this morning in a working meeting at the University of Burgos to study the benefits derived from the integration of the UBU in the European University RUN-EU, has valued as "extraordinarily important the participation of the University of Burgos in this European alliance of universities, since with these new structures the future of Higher Education in Europe is being built. Moreover, the results of this collaborative work with other universities will be used by society as a whole to promote the development of Castilla y León through the promotion of knowledge transfer and innovation, areas in which the UBU excels.
A relevance shared by the Rector Manuel Pérez Mateos, for whom "the integration of the University of Burgos in the Regional University RUN-EU is an extraordinarily important fact because of what it will mean for the development of both our university and our region, as the Regional Minister has stated. For this reason, I am sincerely grateful for the support we have received from Rocío Lucas, as well as from the rest of the regional government, and we ask the other institutions and companies that have supported and continue to support us in our incorporation into this European University not only to collaborate with us but also to take advantage of the great opportunities that arise as a result of this integration".
In addition to the Regional Minister of Education and Rector Pérez Mateos, together with part of his management team, the meeting was attended by the Director of Universities and Research of the Junta de Castilla y León, Blanca Ares; the Deputy Mayor of Burgos, Vicente Marañón; the provincial deputy and president of the Culture Commission, Raquel Contreras; the secretary general of FAE, Emiliana Molero; the president of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Castilla y León; the president of the European University of Burgos, Emiliana Molero; the president of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Castilla y León; and the vice-mayor of Burgos, Vicente Marañón, the vice-mayor of Burgos; the President of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Castilla y León and President of Grupo Promecal, Antonio Miguel Méndez Pozo; the HR Director of Corporate Functions of Grupo Antolin, Ana Irene Solas; the General Manager of Hiperbaric, Andrés Hernando; the President of the Caja Burgos Foundation, Rafael Barbero, as well as the Director of Institutions in Castilla y León of Banco Santander, Rubén García, and the Head of Institutions Burgos-Soria of Banco Santander, Fernando Merino.
The University of Burgos joined the Regional University Network-European University (RUN-EU) last November and will participate in the proposal of this alliance for the Erasmus+ 2023 call for European universities, which will be presented during January 2023 to the European Union for the period 2023-2029 and which will provide the UBU with funds of 1.4 million euros during the four years 2023-2026.
As agreed in the various meetings held in the framework of the RUN-EU General Assembly held last November, the University of Burgos, in addition to participating in the seven work packages in which the document of the Erasmus+ 2023 call for European universities is structured, will lead the one dedicated to Engagement, i.e. activities aimed at promoting the participation of public institutions, companies, and the community. A task that Rector Pérez Mateos values as "exciting and of great importance, as it means for the University of Burgos to be especially involved in developing a European space for interregional development, a facet on which RUN-EU focuses its main objectives".
