SmartArt presents new results in its breakthrough digitisation of the learning process

3 Feb 2022

Teachers and students from different educational stages will benefit from the intellectual products of UBU research.

The Erasmus SmartArt Project, Self Regulated Learning in SmartArt, led by the University of Burgos and focused on the dissemination of European cultural heritage and the proposal of digital methodologies for learning, has held a new transnational meeting in which the intellectual product of enrichment for the learning of Neuropsychology has been presented.

This new product, which is now available to the general public on the website in Spanish and English, and soon also in Portuguese, provides a toolkit that includes guidelines for teachers to apply a methodology based on self-regulation of learning in digital environments and a training programme.

It consists of five units dealing with neurological development in the first six years of human life. It also adds guidelines for developing early intervention programmes in this period and provides assessment rubrics, self-assessment instruments for verifying learning and instruments for evaluating student satisfaction with the teaching-learning process.

These materials have been developed by researchers of the SmartArt strategic partnership of the University of Burgos and the University of Oviedo, belonging to the DATAHES research group, PhD. María Consuelo Sáiz Manzanares, and ADIR research group, PhD. Rebeca Cerezo Menéndez and PhD. José Carlos Núñez Pérez.

The meeting also discussed the organisation of three multiplier events that are expected to take place in the second half of May in Burgos, Braga and Malta. These events will address the results of the first and second intellectual products developed within the SmartArt Project.

The first intellectual product, already completed, has dealt with the development of materials for learning about the origins of monasteries in Europe aimed at adults, coordinated by PhD. María José Zaparaín Yánez. In addition, this product has included intellectual transfer products aimed at children in pre-school and primary education. Similarly, within the intellectual transfer product, intellectual enrichment products have been developed for other subjects such as Neuropsychology and STEM education, the latter being coordinated by PhD. Miguel Ángel Queiruga-Dios.

Also, the multiplier events will work on the results of the second intellectual product that is currently being developed and which refers to the adaptation of the materials produced in the first intellectual product to different learning profiles (initial, intermediate and advanced). These profiles have been found through the use of eye tracking technology and automatic learning techniques. Specifically, the multiplier event coordinated by the University of Burgos will be carried out in collaboration with the Teacher Training Centre of the Provincial Directorate of Education of Burgos and will be aimed at teachers of Secondary Education specialising in Technology and Communication, Psychology and Pedagogy and History, as well as teachers of all educational stages interested in innovation in the teaching-learning process.

Final Transnational Meeting

The SmartArt project researchers plan to conclude the project in September with an informative and training day open to society in general, which, if the health situation allows, will be held in person at the University of Burgos.
