IMDEA Nanociencia

The Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies in Nanoscience. IMDEA Nanociencia The Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies in Nanoscience —IMDEA Nanociencia— is an interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to the study of nanoscience and the development of applications in nanotechnology and molecular design. The institute is one of the seven IMDEA institutes backed by Comunidad de Madrid and is located on the Cantoblanco "UAM+CSIC International Excellence Campus".

Its research brings together different scientific disciplines, including Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Biology, with a particular focus on understanding and controlling matter at the nanoscale. This interdisciplinary approach enables researchers to address both fundamental questions in nanoscience and the development of new technologies and applications in collaboration with academic institutions, research organisations and industry.

IMDEA Nanociencia's mission is to conduct excellent research in areas including nanomedicine, advanced materials, energy harvesting, photonics and nanomagnetism, supported by competitive European and national funding programmes. The institute is committed to attracting international scientific talent and training the next generation of researchers. It also works to bring science closer to society through science communication, outreach and dissemination activities.

Since its creation in 2006 as a non-profit foundation, IMDEA Nanociencia has established itself as an international research centre in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Today, the institute brings together around 250 staff members representing 32 nationalities, with 45 laboratories and more than 10,000 m² of research facilities.
