Universidad de Burgos coordinates an european project to design an international erasmus mundus master's degree in computer science

A Consortium of 5 European universities supported by an extensive network of partners is developing an Erasmus Mundus joint master’s degree in computer science

Funded in 2022 by the Erasmus Mundus Design Measures program, four higher education institutions coordinated by Universidad de Burgos are promoting the development of a Master's in Computer Science for the Human-Centric and Sustainable Industry. This program is distinguished by its high level of innovation and excellence in curriculum and management, aiming to attract international talent.

The launch of the Master in Computer Science for the Human-Centric and Sustainable Industry (EMaCS) program marks a significant milestone in higher education. With a steadfast commitment to excellence, EMaCS aims to develop a distinguished master's degree program encompassing 120 ECTS credits, accredited across five European nations. Through strategic collaboration with esteemed institutions including Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra, Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg, Université de Lorraine, Universitatea de Vest din Timisoara, and Turun Ammattikorkeakoulu, alongside several esteemed associated partners, EMaCS endeavors to set new standards in computer science education.

The core mission of EMaCS is to provide students with a comprehensive education rooted in a multidisciplinary approach to human-centered industrial computing, while also integrating critical elements of sustainability, resilience, and circular economy principles. With a curriculum structured around diferent specialized tracks, EMaCS is poised to equip students with the specialized skills demanded by today's dynamic job market. Additionally, the program places a strong emphasis on fostering essential soft skills such as creative thinking, effective communication, adaptability, and environmental analysis, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for success in their professional endeavors.

Supported by a substantial budget of 55,000 euros, generously provided by the Erasmus+ program, EMaCS is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of quality and excellence. Over the next 15 months, the Consortium will undergo rigorous accreditation procedures, overseen by an esteemed international Panel of Experts, to ensure the program meets and exceeds the stringent criteria set forth by the European Approach.

Looking ahead, EMaCS is poised to respond to the 2024 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters call, with ambitious plans to launch a series of complete program editions. Furthermore, the program aims to offer exclusive scholarships to outstanding students with exceptional academic and professional credentials, further enhancing its reputation as a beacon of excellence in computer science education.
