ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS

GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR ALL CANDIDATES

Applicants, whether applying for an EMaCS scholarship or not, must meet the following requirements:

  • Must not apply to more than 3 Erasmus Mundus programs in the same year.
  • Must correctly complete the online application form, including all attachments, and be capable of sending hard copies in English (with certified English translation if required) of all necessary documents upon request.
  • Must submit their application within the specified deadline.
  • Must commit to full-time study throughout the 2-year course and undertake the compulsory international mobility route (at least two semesters in different countries) as chosen on the application form and agreed upon with the Consortium in the Student Agreement if selected.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS FOR EMACS ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS

Candidates applying for an EMaCS Erasmus Mundus Scholarship must also meet the following conditions:

  • The student has never previously received an Erasmus Mundus (Master or Doctoral) scholarship.
  • The student cannot benefit from another EU-funded scholarship scheme for the entire duration of the EMaCS Master course.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have at least a Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent: 180 ECTS, with a minimum of 3 years of study) in computer science, information and communication technology, computer science, electronics, telecommunications, software engineering, or media technology. Admission of candidates with other unrelated degrees will be considered here as long as they have successfully completed courses in programming, data structures and algorithms, software engineering, operating systems, or computer networks. Valid degrees include:

  • Possession of an official university degree from any country within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that allows access to a Master's degree.
  • Possession of an official university degree from any foreign educational system, verified with the EMaCS Coordinator to confirm that the diploma attests to a level of training equivalent to official Bachelor’s degrees in the EHEA. This degree should also serve as a means of access to a Master’s degree in the country where it was awarded. It is essential to note that this admission does not imply official recognition of the previous qualification for any purpose other than gaining access to EMaCS studies.

Knowledge and desired competences:

  • Foundations in Computer Engineering: Candidates are expected to have a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of computer engineering, including programming, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Basic Knowledge of Computer Systems: Undergraduate-level experience in topics such as software engineering, operating systems, and computer networks.
  • Competence in Emerging Technologies: Familiarity with emerging technologies in the field of computer science, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analysis.
  • Awareness of Sustainability and Human-Centric Development: Interest and understanding of sustainability and human-centric development principles, especially in the context of technology.
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills: Effective communication skills and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams are highly valued.
  • Ethical and Privacy Knowledge: Understanding the ethical aspects of computer science and the importance of data privacy.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Demonstrating critical thinking skills and the ability to address and solve problems innovatively.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

At least two years (24 months) of work experience in the field of Computer Science, acquired after the completion of the bachelor's degree. This experience should be verifiable through employment certificates issued by the employer.

  • Only work experience directly related to the degree or, alternatively, specific courses from unrelated degrees that are required in the academic prerequisites will be considered. This relationship must be clearly specified in both the cover letter and the recommendation letters submitted as part of the application documentation.

Work experience is calculated in full months. When converting part-time work (work under 35 hours per week) to its full-time equivalent, 150 hours or 20 working days lasting at least 7 hours per day correspond to one month of work. Work experience doesn't need to be continuous or obtained with the same employer.

Entrepreneurship will be considered work experience as long as the applicant provides a government certificate at the local, regional, or national level, certifying proper registration and coverage under the pension scheme. This certificate should outline the validity period of the registration in the corresponding system, including the start and end dates, to assess compliance with the work experience prerequisite. Only work experience directly related to the degree or, alternatively, specific courses from unrelated degrees that are required in the academic prerequisites will be considered. This relationship must be clearly specified in both the cover letter and the recommendation letters submitted as part of the application documentation.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants from countries where English is not one of the official languages, must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English at a B2 (upper-intermediate) level of the Common European Framework confirmed by language certificates:

  • CEFR: B2
  • EF SET: 51 - 60
  • TOEFL iBT: 72 - 94
  • IELTS: 5.5 - 6.0
  • TOEIC (R&L) Total Score: 785 - 940
  • Cambridge English Scale: 160 - 179
  • Global Scale of English: 59 - 75

Students who have received their Bachelor’s degree in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, or Australia are exempt from sending the English language certificate. For students with a different certificate, verification should be done in consultation with the EMaCS Coordinator.

EXPIRY AND VALIDATION OF LANGUAGE TEST RESULTS

  • Some language test certificates have a limited validity, typically two years.
  • All test certificates submitted to the EMaCS Coordinator undergo validation with the respective test-providing organizations. This validation process may take up to six weeks after the application deadline. If a language test certificate has expired before validation, the Coordinator may be unable to validate it, leading to the rejection of the application for formal reasons.
  • Applicants with a language test certificate nearing expiry before the application deadline may contact the EMaCS Coordinator a few weeks in advance. They can request validation of their scores before the deadline and will be notified of the outcome via email.
